I started writing TBSOL pretty much right after I finished Alix & Valerie. It had been a story in my head for months. I had told everyone I knew about my idea, and they all seemed really unenthusiastic about it. I couldn’t find one person - of my normally really supportive friends - who told [...]

TBSOL Rewrite: Where to Read It
My very good friend Tricia (and her - imaginary - friend Tulip) left me the following message:
i thought you had me in some group where i could read the rewrite, i’m really confussed right now i have been looking for rewrite, not because i want to read it, but beacuse Tulip wants to.
So in [...]

TBSOL rewrite, progess report
I’ve been productive over the weekend, at least on The Blind Side of Love front. My goal is to finish the novel by the end of the year, though ideally, I’d like to have it finished and under publication contract by August. Why August? I don’t know. Seems like a nice month.
We’ll see.

Quote of the Day
I’ve got some screed hammering about inside my crowded skull about readers who want writers to hold their hands through a story, readers who cannot tolerate mystery and wonder, but prefer exposition and “satisfaction.” What the hell is all this satisfaction crap, anyway? “I did not find this story satisfying.” So the hell what? It’s [...]
Talent vs. Learning to Write
In my last post I mentioned a friend who said that writing did not involve talent, but rather practice. Her comment may have seemed harsh, but in the context of the conversation, I didn’t take it personally. We were discussing what went into art in its many forms, and were mostly just thinking aloud.
Her main [...]
Adde(drambli)ndum
In regards to yesterday’s post on the subject of writers vs. non-writers, I hope that I didn’t come across as a snobby “I’m a writer and you’re not” kind of person, because that’s not what I meant at all. If that’s how it read then I apologize.
I have a very valued friend who once said [...]
A Writer vs. a Non-Writer
I have been writing fiction pretty much consistently since I was 10 years old. It wasn’t great fiction, but it was fiction. It wasn’t brilliant writing, but it was writing.
Over the years, I’ve met many people who’ve asked me what I plan to do with my life. In college, the question read as, “What [...]
On Rewriting TBSOL (part 2 of whatever)
So, because I should be doing numerous other things, I’m going to ramble some more about this stuff.
This is part 2 in what should more aptly be titled “Ingrid (publically) justifies (to herself) the reasons for rewriting her 500 page novel instead of just fixing a few things and letting it be” [...]
