About
I’m a little writer with big ambitions. Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, I have lived in exotic places such as Cooper City, Florida and New Brunswick, New Jersey. In the midst of my 25th year on Earth, I embarked on a journey across seas to Lyon, France, with the intention of taking over the world from my Top Secret Lair of Doom mastering the French language.
Up until recently, I worked as a video games and entertainment blogger for b5media, but now I’ve wandered off on my own and launched Grey’s News, a blog about Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve done a lot of freelance writing/blogging over the years, so you’ll find me scattered all over the Internet in places such as AfterEllen.
When I’m not writing blogs, I write fiction (novels, short stories), some of which you can find here at Midnight Island. My first novel, Alix & Valerie is now published by Bedazzled Ink.
25 Random Facts About Me
1. I’m extremely absent-minded. I’ve only been awake for an hour but already I have (almost) brushed my teeth with hand soap, put Coke in my coffee, and accidentally tossed a spoon in the trash.
2. I lost a tooth when I was six and my parents forgot to put money under my pillow. When I woke up and found that the Tooth Fairy hadn’t come, I got very angry. I went up to my mom and said, “It’s you, isn’t it? There is no Tooth Fairy! Magical people don’t forget things!” My mom confirmed these suspicions and I felt very betrayed. The next day I told everyone at school that there was no Tooth Fairy and that it was very likely Santa Claus was fake, too. Then I got in trouble for making a bunch of kids cry.
3. Sometimes I worry that our apartment is bugged. Not because I’m concerned for our privacy, but because I spend most days singing aloud to myself and making up songs that make no sense. Although, yesterday I spent part of the day singing, “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under,” in as many different ways as I could. The Broadway version was particularly fun.
4. I’m a terrible insomniac, but stick me in a car and I can fall asleep no problem.
5. I am deeply intrigued by the notion of productivity and have about five To Do list applications on my iPhone. But I have trouble getting around to actually writing down the things I have to do.
6. I am currently reading a straight, erotic romance novel about a woman from New Jersey who gets kidnapped by an immortal, time-traveling knight at Medieval Times and sent – via time portal in the toilet – back to the 12th century to become a sex slave. It brings me much amusement and was totally worth the $4.99. I’m pondering the audio book…
7. I used to think that it was better to read a book and then watch the movie, but I find I get more enjoyment out of both if I do it the other way around.
8. I find that you can get through most conversations in French by alternating between “bof” and “oui.” I’m not even quite sure what “bof” means but it’s really fun to say.
9. I hate: pickles, dark chocolate, and licorice. I’ve never tried them all at once, but I’d imagine that’s what evil must taste like.
10. I’ve watched all ten seasons of Friends more times than I can count and rarely go a day without either quoting it in some fashion or saying the phrase, “That reminds me of that one time on Friends when…”
11. I break into song randomly. Sometimes in public.
12. Lately I’ve been contemplating going back to school and becoming a Sociologist. I think Sociology was the single most interesting class I took in college. And I didn’t even take it at Rutgers.
13. I get really easily distracted. In fact, I’ve almost forgotten I was doing this about six times already.
14. Even though I’ve heard most people prefer to do the things they’re good at, I find I enjoy doing things I’m decidedly bad at.
15. I’m extremely shy and tend to agonize about whether or not to follow people on Twitter that don’t know me, or friend people on MySpace I’ve never spoken to, etc. I’m much happier when people approach me first.
16. I think the main reason I like Brussels sprouts is because my mom told me back when I first had them that most people didn’t like them. And I picked up the fork determined not to be like most people.
17. My mom and I would occasionally plan a movie day in the middle of the school week. I’d tell her which day I didn’t have anything important going on in my afternoon classes, and she’d pick me up and we’d go to the movies. And then to the mall.
18. I believe in the supernatural because it’s far more interesting than not believing in it.
19. I’m an only child. I think that fact has influenced my personality more than any other. I like to think of it as a positive influence, but I guess I’ll never know the difference.
20. I carry a pen and notebook with me everywhere I go. But I do most of my writing in my head.
21. When I find a song I like, I will listen to it over and over and over and over. This often makes K want to kill me.
22. I can’t deal with the idea of having the toilet in the same room as the shower/sink anymore. It was one of those things that I thought was really odd when I first came to France, having them in separate rooms. But now I find it really disturbing when I see all three things together.
23. I can type really fast thanks to AOL. It used to charge by the minute and this taught me how to hurry.
24. Even though I’m totally addicted to coffee, I prefer caffeine free Coke to any other.
25. I get really excited when there’s cheese bubbles on my pizza. I truly believe that cheese bubbles make it taste better.
