Today, I felt like writing a short story. I titled it, ‘Short Story’ in Word, and sat there staring at the blank screen. I felt like writing a short story, I just didn’t have any ideas for a short story, which tends to cause a problem in the storytelling front.

So, I sat there, thinking, this is ridiculous. Why am I writing a short story when I have nothing to write about? Aren’t you supposed to have a story before you write one?

Yet in the past, I rarely had an idea before I started writing it, so I figured not actually having that idea present and in my head isn’t such a big deal.

Randomly, I wrote the following line: For the rest of her days on Earth, Kassandra Cooper would thank the salad for saving her life.

From there, I managed to whip out a 1,055 word short story that I’m not even sure I like but that - for some reason - I couldn’t stop writing. I kept thinking, “I don’t want to be writing this story,” and yet, every time I tried to go do something else, something would make me go back to it.

So I finished it. And there it sits.

Final title: ‘Destination Unknown’. I’m not sure if I’ll post it on the ‘net. I think I’m just happy to have something finished.
