Novel Numero Next: Rayne Book I: The Third Seer (aka Rayne v2)

You can’t see it, but I’m throwing confetti into the air because I’m really excited about going back to Rayne. And by “going back” I really mean “going forward” and rewriting the whole thing.

When I announced that I was rewriting TBSOL there were cries of outrage and a general, “OMG WHYYYY?!” reaction that left me wondering, Am I doing the right thing? Am I crazy? And sure, it took a long time. And sure, it was a lot of work. But in the end I think most people agree that TBSOL v2 is a much better book. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I will be even happier when I’m done editing it.

TBSOL v1 and v2 are totally different from each other. Similar, but different. Rayne v2 will be similar but different to v1. I think, in fact, that the difference between Rayne v1 and Rayne v2 will be far more extreme than the difference between TBSOL v1 and TBSOL v2.

Yesterday, I spent about four hours outlining Rayne and I’m still not done. I don’t normally outline books from beginning to end but I feel like I have to with Rayne because it’s a completely different type of book than I usually write (paranormal versus … not paranormal).

I intend to do a lot of the heavy lifting before I start to actually write it. Hopefully that will make it so I don’t spend another near-decade on one book.

As a result of all the outlining, I now have a good idea of what will change between the two versions. So for you Rayne fans, here’s the latest info.

Stuff that will be different

• Title Change – Now Book I: The Third Seer
• Order of Akasha – Renamed
• Naia – Gone
• Ry – Gone
• Merfolk – renamed
• Thryn – renamed
• Braeden – Gone
• All members of the Circle of Elders (with the exception of Larken) – Replaced with new characters
• Addition of brand new supporting characters (the demon being one)
• Plot structure – revamped

Stuff that won’t be different

• Azure
• Aeryn
• Zora
• Larken
• Jael

Their characters will remain unchanged, though their stories will be somewhat altered due to changes in the plot.

In the end, though, Rayne v2 is still very much a love story between Aeryn and Azure. Only with ass-kicking and magick.
